81) Explore 10 derelict buildings: Part 1, Newport Towers Hotel

After 'The UK's Longest Hedge-Maze' and 'Stonehenge', our last stop on Saturdays Mission was 'Newport Towers Hotel'. This hotel is abandoned, with police tape around, but with many broken doors and windows, allowing it to be the ideal first spot for '#81, Explore 10 derelict buildings'.

This hotel was the location of my photoshoot a few weeks ago, which gave me the idea of adding the urban exploring to the list. I didn't want to count that as exploring it though, as I didn't get to go upstairs or in the rooms.

The first thing you notice about the hotel is that it has a letter missing from the large sign. All spooky places must have at least one letter missing.

Most of the rooms were really dark, but the camera flash doesn't really show that.

We parked up on the side, and me, Neil and Melissa went in.

Melissa got scared of being told off by police/security so she went back to the car while me and Neil carried on around.

Neil suddenly shouted loudly, making me near s**t myself, as I nearly trod on a dead rat. Nice.

Behind the reception all the keys to the rooms were scattered on the floor. I wanted to take #17 as a memento, but I couldn't find it.

All of the rooms were open, so we could go in. There wasn't all that much to see though.

There was a weird building outside. It was probably used for maintenance, but now probably some sort of 'gang den' for children.

Look, I'm a barman!

Neil looked in the big freezers next to the kitchen. I was worried there would be a body in there.

This corridor was pitch black. I took a photo to try and see what was down there.

The tipped over car was fun again.

We were going to go back in and down the scary corridor (we didn't want to at first in case someone jumped out on us...) but when we started to go in I noticed a man standing staring at us, so we quickly got back to the car and drove off.

1 down, 9 to go.

  3. This looks like fun in a creepy, gross, derelict kind of way. Good think no one stepped on that dead rat!

  4. There was a man looking at you? Wow. That would have scared the shit out of me. Did you scream or did you just promptly get out of there?

  5. I agree - missing at least one letter is a minimum requirement for creepy buildings... You might like this site: http://www.opacity.us/locations/ --- All abandoned buildings - some fairly well known (at least here in the U.S.) :-)

  6. I'm hoping to go in there today - sooo excited. I hope we can get in without being seen. Are there any asylums or old nursing homes about this area? I would probably wee myself with excitement if I found one.

  7. Have fun! Let me know how it goes! I'm not sure about asylums, but if you find one please let me know! I'd love to go in one too.

  11. I used to stay there on a regular basis and it is so sad to see it so forlorn. The staff who worked there were some of the friendliest I've ever met nothing was to much trouble for them. To see the room keys just scattered on the floor(many of the room numbers that I'd stayed in are there)is so sad. Why it has been left to get in such a state is a crime. PS. I often felt a presence in one room in particular I cant remember which one though, but I often had strange things happen in there!! ie. chairs moved whilst I was in shower (or during the night), or the tv coming on,on its own. May be Most Haunted shoud go there!!!!!!

  13. Went there last night with a group of people in the pitch dark. Kept having a feeling like someone was watching us the whole time. With the stormy clouds it looked like something out of the Walking dead and the fact soon as someone fell over in one of the rooms all the girls screamed their heads off. The corridors were so creepy as the torches couldn't reach down the bottom. We thought we heard a really weird groan noise far off and ended up leaving. It was a cool experience and adrenaline rush. Then watching resident evil one we got back.

  15. It isnt haunted and the only scary about Newport Towers is the risk on sticking yourself on a used needle or broken glass the police would rather you didnt trespass as there is lots to hurt yourself on and just so you know if you do go your car reg is taken and usually passed to the police so better hope your tax disc is in date.
